Communication Landing

Earthquakes, typhoons, or other natural disasters often cause the disconnection, such as the destruction of base, phone and electricity crisis, disruption of traffic, which are hard to fix immediately. Especially the communication interruption, it is a serious problem to both disaster relief unit and the relatives of victims.

1. In this situation, the disaster relief unit cannot reach victims, also cannot get more information of the area, which is bad to the crisis management.

2. Both the victims and their family may suffer from anxiety and worries due to the disconnection.

Our goal is to build up the communication under this circumstances as soon as possible.

The slim high-gain antenna developed by ITRI successfully integrates antenna transmission and solar panel power storage technology. It simultaneously improves the conversion efficiency of solar energy optoelectronics and the efficiency of antenna reception and transmission. Not only has signal strength been doubled, it is a 10-fold increase in distance compared to the current international antenna technology, and can store power at the same time with lower power consumption. Furthermore, size of the antenna has shrunk by half. It will be applicable to small handheld mobile devices (PDAs, cell phones, personal GPS devices, etc.), and to medium and large station antennas. In the future, this green energy antenna technology can replace the current 3G stations (with estimated power consumption approximately 500W). It is estimated that it can provide approximately 30% supplementary power which will effectively mitigate peak hour power consumption during day time and relieve loading of the power grid.

Communication Landing is a communication system design to deal with natural disasters. It can deliver goods by airdrop and land transport to the stricken region. Combining the advantages of Solar power with building up a base station by using the Green antenna technology. Victims can easily build up a simple and temporary base to keep the area in touch with outer world. Moreover, each unit provides 4 simple cellphones with serial numbers. So the disaster relief unit can contact victims efficiently.

Airdrop the "Communication Landing" in the stricken area to help the region building up the recipient range. Also it can open to other cellphones. There will be 4 simple cellphone with full battery in the box at the same time.

There are 4 full battery cellphones on each corner of the box for victims..

1. The crew first tears off the sticker to untie the parachute.
2. Drop the box out of the plane, let the parachute open and landed slowly.
3. When landed, victims can open the box.
4. There are some simple graphic descriptions in it.
5. Follow the instructions to flip the inner side of the box out. Make it stand as an “A”.
6. Pull up the two green antenna plates, fasten the rails then keep them upright.

Parachute:  design for airdrop situation, which can be stored in the outer notch of the box.
The Box:  Made by impact resistance material and form, to protect the components.
Stand: The case will become a stand after flipping the inside out, which can improve the solar power efficiency and signal quality by gaining the heights of Green Antennas.
Green Antenna: Signal quality can be improved by increasing the heights by pulling them up alone the rail. Two antennas reach two ways horizontally, which can receive more sunlight from dawn to dark.
Simple cell: 4 full battery cellphones carried with serial numbers. With the latest technology, it can stand by more than 40 days, and over 48 hours talking time.
